SAGA's formation
As a result to growing attention surrounding transgender, intersex, and other gender issues, there was a move iniatied in the early 2000s that was dissatistified how the groups name BGALA (Bisexual, Gay, and Lesbian Alliance) failed to reflect this. As a result, submissions for new names were called for, and the group voted to become the Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA). This is the current organization that continues on campus today. Listen below to one member's account of the name change.
With the renaming to SAGA, traditions of the club were continued, solidified, and new ones were formed. Out Week and Pride Week programming continued to be a major activity for SAGA, with Pride Week being augmented by Out Talk. Drag Ball, a party held where attendees dress in drag, was started as a part of fall Out Week, and continued to be held most years thereafter until recently.
