Enduring Presence 2023: Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania Art

About the Exhibit

Alex Rodriguez-Gomez

Enduring Presence 2023: Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania Art showcases contemporary Lenape artistry in Pennsylvania. Each item is borrowed from the homes of the artists and temporarily on hold from regular use. The exhibit – an expansion of the Everyday Artistry, Enduring Presence exhibit at Temple University (2019) – celebrates Lenape people and art today, highlighting individual connections to tradition and community through creation.

The items, physically on display at the White Gallery in Haverford College’s Lutnick Library from January through July 2023, can be seen in a photo gallery here on this website. Other information including video of interviews with the artists, resources about Lenape history and culture, and reflections on Haverford’s relationship with the Lenape people and land, can be found by navigating through the tabs on the right side of the page.

This exhibit celebrates art from the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, and honors the memory of the Nation members and artists who are no longer with us. Ed Seabird Hawk, Phillip Wakteme Rice, and Brook Sasapis DePaul, whose artwork features in this exhibit, are missed for their presence and remembered for the care they left behind.
