Silver Gravy Bowl (1878)
Dublin Core
Title
Silver Gravy Bowl (1878)
Description
The most splendid set evermade in the United States was that ordered by Mr. Mackey, one of the ownersof the Bonanza silver-mines, in 1877, which comprised several hundred piecesof elaborately made solid-silver ware, including an enormous punch-bowl anda huge candelabrum.
--------------- From the picture description
The first thing that I noticed about this photo was the fact that despite the information that it was silver, I noticed that there was absolutely no design on the bowl at all. Thinking about the reading and how it would relate to this bowl, its interesting to find a product that is absolutely expressionless and free of design. Perhaps its "basicness" is a sign of who the item was intended to be sold to?
