Dr. James E. McConnel, a former Northfield pastor, gave a speech at the Sunday service. He lectured on the principles of the “New Age,” and the positive changes being implemented, such as “regulation of the traffic of intoxicating liquors, and the granting of suffrage to women” (The Carletonia, 1918).
