ISSEY MIYAKE clothes were born in autumn 2010. In the development process of the 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE project, attempts to explore design from a broader viewpoint - not just limited to clothing - evolved into the IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE lighting products. It is a collection of free-standing, table and hanging lights developed by Issey Miyake + Reality Lab. and manufactured by Artemide. The production of the lighting products involved not only the latest technology, but also the work by human hands. And, at the base of the products' concept is the traditional Japanese esthetics about the relationship between light and shadow (in-ei). The three-dimensional form concept developed for 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE is used in creating the lampshades. The non-woven fabric made from recycled pet bottles is used with special surface treatment for the lampshades, and the fabric has unique light transmission quality. They require no internal frame to support, and can be folded flat when not in use. ISSEY MIYAKE clothes were born in autumn 2010. The project, developed by Issey Miyake and his Reality Lab. team, is both a new label and a reincarnation of A-POC. The process by which the clothing is made is groundbreaking: first, a variety of three-dimensional shapes are conceived in collaboration with a computer scientist; then, these shapes are folded into two dimensional forms with pre-set cutting lines that determine their finished shape; and finally, they are heat-pressed, to yield folded shirts, skirts, dresses etc. These clothes are significant not only for the process by which they were made but because they are also made using recycled PET products, sometimes in combination with other recycled fibers. 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE is Miyake's new creative challenge based on the ideas of “Regeneration and Re-creation” and a continuation of his perpetual search for new ways by which to make “clothes that bring joy and happiness to wearers”.
